This is your reminder to use those Charged TMs! ⚠️ The Steeled Resolve: Taken Over event (April 30 – May 4, 2026) opens the window to remove FrustrationNormal from your Shadow Pokémon one of the rarest and most valuable opportunities in all of Pokémon GO. Here's exactly what to do and why it matters so much.

🤔 What Is Frustration & Why Is It a Problem?

Every Shadow Pokémon you catch automatically knows FrustrationNormal as its Charged Attack. FrustrationNormal is a NormalNormal-type move with weak damage that is almost completely useless in raids and PvP.

Here's the catch you normally cannot remove FrustrationNormal with a Charged TM. The game simply won't let you, outside of specific event windows. That means your prized Shadow Mewtwo, Shadow Machamp, or Shadow Gardevoir could be stuck with a useless move indefinitely unless you act during one of these rare windows.

FrustrationNormal also blocks future exclusive moves. If you try to evolve a Shadow Pokémon during Community Day to get an exclusive move, it can't learn the exclusive move while FrustrationNormal is still equipped. Removing it now unlocks that path permanently.

⏰ When Can You Remove It?

FrustrationNormal can only be removed during Team GO Rocket Takeover events. These windows are rare usually only a handful of times per year.

Current window: Steeled Resolve: Taken Over April 30, 12:00 AM – May 4, 8:00 PM local time

Outside of this window, using a Charged TM on a Shadow Pokémon will not offer FrustrationNormal as a move to replace. The option simply won't appear. Don't miss it.

📋 How to Remove Frustration — Step by Step

Step 1 — Verify the Event Is Active

Open Pokémon GO and check the Today View (binoculars icon). Confirm that "Steeled Resolve: Taken Over" is listed as an active event. If it's not live yet, you'll have to wait.

Step 2 — Find Your Shadow Pokémon with FrustrationNormal

Use the in-game search bar to find them quickly. Type exactly:

@FrustrationNormal

This filter shows every Shadow Pokémon in your collection that still knows FrustrationNormal. Work through the list and decide which ones to prioritize (see below for recommendations).

Step 3 — Open the Pokémon's Profile

Tap the Shadow Pokémon you want to fix. Verify you can see FrustrationNormal listed under its Charged Attacks.

Step 4 — Use a Charged TM

On the Pokémon's profile page, tap the three dots (⋯) menu in the bottom-right corner and select Items.

You'll see two options:

  • Charged TM — assigns a new Charged Attack randomly from the Pokémon's available moveset
  • Elite Charged TM — lets you pick a specific Charged Attack (including legacy/Community Day moves)

During an active Takeover event, both will show FrustrationNormal as a move that can be replaced. Tap either TM and confirm the replacement.

💡 If the option to replace Frustration is greyed out, try closing and fully restarting the app the event activation sometimes needs a fresh launch to register.

Step 5 — Done! Now You Can Use NormalNormal TMs Freely

Once FrustrationNormal is gone, it's gone permanently your Shadow Pokémon can never relearn FrustrationNormal. From this point, you can use Charged TMs as NormalNormal to cycle through moves until you get the one you want.

🏆 Which Shadow Pokémon Should You Prioritize?

You probably have limited Charged TMs, so focus on the Shadows that benefit most from a better move:

Top Priority — Remove FrustrationNormal ASAP

Shadow Pokémon

Why It Matters

Shadow Mewtwo

The most powerful attacker in the game — useless without PsystrikePsychic or Shadow BallGhost

Shadow Machamp

Top FightingFighting attacker — needs Dynamic PunchFighting

Shadow Gardevoir

Top FairyFairy/PsychicPsychic attacker — needs SynchronoisePsychic or Dazzling GleamFairy

Shadow Dragonite

S-Tier DragonDragon attacker — needs Draco MeteorDragon or OutrageDragon

Shadow Tyranitar

Top RockRock/DarkDark attacker — needs Stone EdgeRock or CrunchDark

Shadow Salamence

Great DragonDragon attacker — needs OutrageDragon

Shadow Mamoswine

Top IceIce attacker — needs AvalancheIce

Shadow Raikou

Top ElectricElectric attacker — needs Wild ChargeElectric

Also Worth Removing

Any Shadow Pokémon you plan to evolve during Community Day for an exclusive move FrustrationNormal must be gone first or it will BlockNormal the exclusive move.

💡 Charged TM vs. Elite Charged TM — Which Should You Use?

Regular Charged TM:

  • Assigns a random move from the available pool (FrustrationNormal excluded during event)
  • Best for Pokémon where most charged moves are good (e.g. Shadow Machamp any ChargeElectric move beats FrustrationNormal)
  • Use these freely they're more common

Elite Charged TM:

  • Lets you pick any specific move, including legacy and Community Day exclusive moves
  • Best for high-value Pokémon where you want a specific move (e.g. Shadow Mewtwo + PsystrikePsychic, Shadow Dragonite + Draco MeteorDragon)
  • Save these for your absolute best IV Shadows they're very rare
💡 Strategy tip: Use a regular Charged TM first to remove Frustration. Then use another regular TM to cycle toward the move you want. Only use an Elite TM when you've exhausted regular TM luck on something truly irreplaceable.
