When Is Shiny Varoom Available?
Shiny Varoom's debut window is:
Steeled Resolve: Taken Over April 30, 12:00 AM – May 4, 8:00 PM local time
This is the first time in Pokémon GO that Shiny Varoom can be hatched from 12km eggs, making this a genuinely exciting collector's moment. Miss this window and you'll have to wait for the next Takeover event.
What Is Varoom?
Varoom is the Single-Cylinder Pokémon from Generation 9 (Paldea region in Scarlet & Violet). It's a
Steel/
Poison-type Pokémon that looks like a car engine with a head and it evolves into the multi-cylinder beast Revavroom!
Here are the key facts:
- Type:
Steel /
Poison - Evolves into Revavroom (100 Candy)
- Revavroom has its own forms in the mainline games more GO content likely incoming
- Shiny Varoom features a striking colour change purple tones swap to a vivid green 💚
🥚 How to Get 12km Eggs (Step-by-Step)
12km eggs also called Adventure Eggs or Strange Eggs are special red-and-black eggs that only drop from Team GO Rocket Leaders. You cannot get them from PokéStops, Gifts, or spinning gyms. Here's exactly how to get one:
Step 1 — Get a Rocket Radar
To find a Rocket Leader (Arlo, Cliff, or Sierra), you need a Rocket Radar:
- Defeat 6 Team GO Rocket Grunts at PokéStops or in balloons
- Each Grunt drops a Mysterious Component
- Combine 6 Mysterious Components to craft a Rocket Radar
- Equip the Radar to see Leader locations on your map
“💡 During Taken Over, Rocket Grunts appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons this is the fastest time of the month to collect Mysterious Components!
Step 2 — Beat a Rocket Leader
Find and defeat Arlo, Cliff, or Sierra with your Rocket Radar equipped. Any of the three Leaders works they all have a chance to reward you with a 12km egg.
Step 3 — Check Your Egg Inventory
After the battle, a 12km egg will appear in your Egg inventory provided you have an open egg slot. Make sure you have room! If all 9 slots are full, you won't receive the egg.
“⚠️ Free up egg slots before Taken Over begins! Pop some 2km and 5km eggs into Incubators before April 30 so you have room for 12km eggs from Rocket Leaders.
Step 4 — Hatch It
Place the 12km egg in an Incubator and walk 12km to hatch it. Super Incubators reduce this to approximately 8.3km.
🎲 What Else Hatches from 12km Eggs?
Varoom is in the 12km pool alongside other Pokémon. During Taken Over, the current 12km egg hatch pool includes additional Pokémon alongside Varoom. Notable others in the pool include Larvitar, Deino, Pancham, Skrelp, Salandit, Sandile, and Pawniard all solid hatches!
Varoom is the new addition and the shiny debut is the reason to hatch as many as possible.

What Does Shiny Varoom Look Like?
- Regular Varoom:
Dark grey metallic body with red and orange accents - Shiny Varoom: The body shifts to a vivid green and yellow colour scheme 💚
Shiny Varoom is very easy to spot the colour difference is dramatic and immediately obvious in the hatch animation. And yes, Shiny Varoom evolves into Shiny Revavroom which looks equally stunning!
Is Varoom / Revavroom Worth Powering Up?
Revavroom is primarily a collector's pick right now rather than a raid meta staple. As a
Steel/
Poison-type it has interesting typing, but its attack stat doesn't crack the top tier for either type. That said:
- It's a brand new Gen 9 Pokémon worth having for your Pokédex
- Revavroom's Starmobile forms from the mainline game suggest future forms could come to GO making your current Varoom candy investment future-proof
- Shiny Revavroom has a strong visual appeal a great collector piece 🏆
