Overview -

Sharpedo is the Brutal Pokémon from the Hoenn region — a ferocious dual WaterWater/DarkDark type that tears through raids with its sky-high Attack stat. In Pokémon GO it appears as a Tier 3 Raid Boss in its base form, and as a harder-hitting Mega Raid Boss when Mega evolved. The good news? Thanks to five different type weaknesses, Sharpedo is one of the more approachable raid bosses in the game. Bring the right counters and this one is very winnable — even solo! Let's break it all down for you.

Type and Weather -

Sharpedo is a dual WaterWater/DarkDark type, meaning it is weak to BugBug, ElectricElectric, FairyFairy, FightingFighting, and GrassGrass-type moves. It takes reduced damage from DarkDark, FireFire, GhostGhost, IceIce, SteelSteel, WaterWater, and PsychicPsychic-type moves.

Raid locations with Rainy and Foggy weather increase Sharpedo's damage output, so try to avoid those conditions if possible. However, Rainy weather also boosts your ElectricElectric and GrassGrass-type counters — so if the skies open up, you can absolutely use that to your advantage and hit even harder .

Catch CP Range -

After winning a Sharpedo raid, you can encounter it in the following CP ranges:

Standard: 1,175 – 1,240 CP Weather Boosted (Rainy/Foggy): 1,469 – 1,551 CP

The 100% IV (hundo) CP to watch for is 1,240 standard, or 1,551 when weather boosted. Here's hoping the RNG gods are kind to you !

Can Sharpedo Be Shiny?

Yes! Shiny Sharpedo is available in Pokémon GO and it is a real treat. Its shiny form swaps the usual blue-grey colouring for a gorgeous purple, making it one of the more visually striking shinies in the game. Keep at it, trainers — that purple shark is out there waiting for you .

Mega Sharpedo

Mega Sharpedo takes everything that makes regular Sharpedo dangerous and cranks it up significantly. It keeps the same WaterWater/DarkDark typing but hits much harder — and since its highest stat is Attack, it hits very hard indeed. Avoid bringing PsychicPsychic, FireFire, GhostGhost, RockRock, and GroundGround Pokémon into this fight as Sharpedo resists or punishes all of them.

Winning a Mega Sharpedo raid rewards you with valuable Mega Energy, letting you Mega evolve your own Sharpedo for future raids and battles. After the raid you will encounter the regular Sharpedo for your catch attempt — so it is a great opportunity to grab a high-IV one while you are at it!

Mega Lucario is the standout pick here — both of its moves deal super effective damage to Sharpedo, and its FightingFighting/SteelSteel typing means it can take hits well too. A brilliant all-rounder for this raid .

Pokémon to Avoid -

Steer clear of PsychicPsychic, FireFire, GhostGhost, IceIce, SteelSteel, and WaterWater-type Pokémon in this fight — Sharpedo resists all of those move types. PoisonPoison-types also StruggleNormal here since Sharpedo's WaterWater and DarkDark moves will wear them down quickly. Stick to the five recommended types and you will absolutely breeze through this raid!

How Many Trainers Do You Need?

Here is some great news for solo raiders — Sharpedo's low defense means a single high-level trainer can take it down in its Tier 3 form! Just make sure you are at least level 25 with well-matched counters before going in alone.

For Mega Sharpedo, you will want at least 2 high-level trainers to get the job done comfortably. If your team is on the lower level side, aim for a group of 5 or more and you will have no trouble at all. Bring your friends and make a night of it.

Candy Tips -

Want to stack up on Carvanha candy while Sharpedo is in raids? Mega evolve a Pokémon with a WaterWater or DarkDark type before your catch attempt and you will earn bonus candy with every catch. Mega Gyarados is a great option for this since it is both WaterWater and DarkDark typed — covering both bonuses at once. Every extra candy brings you closer to powering up that perfect Sharpedo.

Catching Tips

Sharpedo bounces around quite a bit during the catch encounter, so a little patience goes a long way. Watch its movement pattern, wait for it to settle, and then aim for Excellent Curveball Throws with a Golden Razz Berry active. Always use Golden Razz Berries — especially if you are chasing a shiny or hunting for that hundo. You earn more Premier Balls by raiding with friends and winning quickly, so a strong CounterFighting team directly improves your odds of making the catch. Every throw is a new opportunity.

Is Mega Sharpedo Worth Catching?

Sharpedo is a fun and rewarding Pokémon to have in your collection. It is a solid pick for PvP cups where WaterWater or DarkDark types shine, and its Mega Evolution is a genuinely useful tool for boosting WaterWater and DarkDark-type moves across your entire team during raids. It may not be the bulkiest Pokémon around, but what it lacks in defence it more than makes up for in personality — and that purple shiny variant is one of the best-looking in the game. Definitely worth stocking up on Carvanha candy while you have the chance .

Good Luck, Trainer!

Sharpedo might look terrifying with all those teeth, but with five type weaknesses it is actually one of the friendliest raid bosses for trainers of all levels. Stack your FightingFighting, ElectricElectric, and GrassGrass-type counters, keep an eye out for that gorgeous purple shiny, and grab as much Carvanha candy as you can while it is around. Whether you are going for the solo glory or teaming up to TackleNormal Mega Sharpedo with friends — you have everything you need right here. Believe in your team, trust your counters, and may your next throw be an Excellent one. Happy raiding! 🦈⚡
