🔥 Why Shadow Entei Is Worth Your Time
Shadow Entei isn't just a collector's trophy it's a genuinely elite Pokémon:
- Shadow Entei is an S-Tier
Fire-type attacker. Its 235 base Attack stat gets pushed even further by the Shadow bonus, and a moveset of Fire Spin
and Overheat
gives it serious damage output in raids. - It ranks among the top
Fire-type attackers in the entire game alongside Shadow Moltres and Mega Blaziken
Fire-types are perpetually relevant against
Ice,
Bug,
Steel, and
Grass-type raid bosses Shadow Entei will see use for years- Shiny Shadow Entei is one of the cleanest shinies in GO a cool white and silver coat replaces the usual brown and cream
Even if you already have a regular Entei, the Shadow version hits significantly harder. This is a meaningful upgrade worth farming.
🌩️ Shadow Entei Weaknesses
Entei is a pure
Fire-type, which gives it three clear weaknesses all equally exploitable:
- 💧
Water — super effective - 🌍
Ground — super effective - 🪨
Rock — super effective
Entei resists
Bug,
Fire,
Fairy,
Grass,
Ice, and
Steel-type moves so avoid those entirely when building your Counter
team.
⚔️ Best Counters for Shadow Entei
Shadow Entei hits harder than its non-Shadow equivalent, so bring your best. Aim for 3–5 experienced trainers with top counters for a smooth, fast run

💡 Best overall: Primal Kyogre with Waterfall
+ Origin Pulse
— the single hardest-hitting
Water attacker in the game. If anyone in your group has one, lead with it.
💡 Best budget pick: Swampert with Water Gun
+ Hydro Cannon
extremely common, easy to build, and still top-tier against
Fire-types.
💡 Weather boost: Rainy weather boosts
Water-type moves (your best pick today). Partly Cloudy boosts
Rock moves. No weather boost? Stick to
Water-types for consistency.
💎 Purified Gems — Essential for Shadow Raids
Unlike regular raids, Shadow Raids have a unique enrage mechanic. Mid-battle, Shadow Entei will go into an enraged state boosting both its Attack and Defense dramatically, making it much harder to beat.
The only way to calm it down is by using Purified Gems. Here's how to get them before May 2:
- Defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts and Leaders to collect Shadow Shards (6 different types)
- Collect all 6 shard types and feed them to Professor Willow's Shard Refiner
- Receive a Purified Gem in return
During the raid:
- Toss Purified Gems at Shadow Entei when it enrages (indicated by its aura glowing red)
- Each gem reduces its enrage level
- Coordinate with your group don't waste gems before enrage triggers!
“💡 Stockpile Purified Gems now by defeating Rocket Grunts during Steeled Resolve: Taken Over (April 30 – May 4). There are more Grunts than usual during Takeover events!
📱 Party Play — Don't Skip It
Shadow Raids are in-person only use this to your advantage with Party Play! Form a Party with up to 4 trainers at the gym before starting the raid.
When Party Play is active and members use Charged Attacks simultaneously, a Party Power activates a massive coordinated damage burst that can shave precious seconds off the raid timer and help push through the enraged phase faster.
“💡 Set up your Party before you spin the gym and enter the lobby together. The Party Power is most effective when you have 3–4 trainers all firing Charged Attacks in sync.
